St. Jude’s School Celebrates Culture and Creativity at the Inter-House Dance Competition 2026 Dance is the hidden language of the soul—where every movement speaks, every rhythm tells a story and every performance celebrates life. St. Jude’s School came alive with colour, rhythm and cultural splendour as it hosted its Inter-House Dance Competition on Saturday, the 19th of September, 2026. The Event provided Students with a vibrant platform to showcase their talent, creativity, discipline and appreciation of diverse cultural traditions. The Competition was organised in two categories. The Middle School Category followed the theme - Indian Classical and Traditional Dances, while the Senior School Category explored - International Folk Dances. The performances reflected extensive preparation, teamwork and the enthusiastic participation of Students under the guidance of their dance teachers. The Occasion was graced by Mrs. V. R. Gardner, Director and Ms. M. Gardner, Principal, St. Jude’s School. The School was privileged to welcome distinguished judges from St. Thomas’ College, Dehradun -Mr. Ajay Kukreja and Mrs. Shravani Pandey, who brought their valuable expertise and experience in the field of dance to the judging process. The Middle School Category presented a colourful journey through India's rich dance traditions. Khanna House presented the graceful Brahma Kalash, Lyons House brought the vibrant spirit of Garba, Howard House presented the lively Apsara Aali, inspired by the Lavani tradition, while Gardner House showcased the traditional Chari Dance of Rajasthan. Each performance reflected cultural richness, expressive movements and enthusiastic preparation. The Senior School Category took the audience across continents through international folk traditions. Khanna House presented the graceful and expressive Thai Dance, Howard House brought the passionate and energetic Flamenco of Spain, Gardner House showcased the elegance and colourful storytelling of Chinese Dance, while Lyons House presented the dramatic and expressive Salome. Dance Competitions such as these play an important role in School life. They provide Students with an opportunity to step beyond the Classroom, discover their artistic abilities, understand traditions from different parts of the world and learn the values of perseverance and collective effort. Such events also nurture stage presence and help Students develop the confidence to express themselves before an audience. The continued encouragement of such enriching activities by the Principal, Ms. M. Gardner, deserves special appreciation. By providing Students with opportunities to participate in cultural and co-curricular activities, the School creates an environment where talent can be recognised and nurtured alongside academic growth. Addressing the gathering, Principal Ms. M. Gardner reflected on the deeper purpose behind the celebration, reminding Students that their different languages, traditions, costumes, music and dances are not barriers between us; they are different expressions of the same human spirit. Quoting Maya Angelou, she said, In diversity there is beauty and there is strength. She urged the Students to take pride in their own traditions while remaining curious about the cultures of others, noting that when we learn to appreciate another culture, we do more than broaden our minds — we enlarge our hearts. She appreciated the dedication displayed by the Students and observed that consistent efforts indeed bring desired results. She commended the Students for their enthusiasm and commitment and acknowledged the sincere efforts of the Dance Teachers, Mrs. Shama Kukreja and Mr. Wilson Lakra, whose guidance and tireless preparation contributed significantly to the success of the Competition. The Results reflected the impressive performances witnessed during the Event. In the Middle School Category, Khanna House secured the First Position with its graceful Brahma Kalash presentation, Lyons House stood Second with its vibrant Garba performance, and Howard House secured Third Position with its energetic Apsara Aali. In the Senior School Category, Khanna House emerged First with its elegant Thai Dance, Howard House secured Second Position with its spirited Flamenco and Gardner House stood Third with its captivating Chinese Dance presentation. The Competition was a celebration of much more than dance. It brought together culture, creativity, discipline, perseverance and teamwork, demonstrating how sustained practice and dedicated guidance can transform young talent into confident performance. The Programme moved towards its conclusion with a stirring rendition of Vande Mataram, which filled the atmosphere with patriotic fervour. This was followed by the National Anthem, bringing the Event to a dignified and memorable close. The Inter-House Dance Competition thus concluded as a celebration of talent, tradition and togetherness, leaving the audience with vibrant memories of graceful movements, compelling rhythms and the remarkable enthusiasm of the Students of St. Jude’s School.
