A Day of Courage, Conviction and Oratory J. G. Masterson and C. J. Bergin Inter-School English Debate The power of words lies not merely in speaking them, but in presenting them with conviction, clarity and courage. It was in this spirit that the team from St. Jude’s School participated in the prestigious J. G. Masterson and C. J. Bergin Inter-School English Debate held at St. George’s College, Mussoorie, on Friday, the 7?? of August 2026. The Competition brought together some of the finest debating talent from twelve reputed Schools, including Auckland School, Bishop Cotton School, The Doon School, St. Joseph’s Academy, Convent of Jesus and Mary, RIMC and several other distinguished School. With only the top eight Schools qualifying for the Semi-Finals, the day promised an intense contest of ideas, arguments and eloquence. Representing St. Jude’s School, the Debate team stepped into the arena with confidence and determination. The first round saw St. Jude’s School face RIMC. Although RIMC emerged victorious in the round, Arjit delivered an outstanding performance and was adjudged the Best Speaker of the Round, giving St. Jude’s School an impressive beginning to the Competition. The second round brought St. Jude’s School face-to-face with Royal Global School. Despite a spirited performance and determined arguments, St. Jude’s School could not secure the round. Nevertheless, the team continued to demonstrate resilience and maintained its composure as the Competition grew increasingly challenging. In the third round, St. Jude’s School took on Bishop Cotton School. While the team narrowly missed out on victory, Pranjali distinguished herself through her confidence, presentation and promising debating skills and was selected as the Most Promising Speaker of Round 3. Her recognition was a proud moment for the entire St. Jude’s School contingent and reflected the growing strength of the School's young speakers. The final round of the day saw St. Jude’s School competing against Convent of Jesus and Mary. Once again, Arjit rose to the occasion and was awarded the Most Promising Speaker of the Round—his second individual recognition of the day. His achievement was a testament to his preparation, presence of mind and ability to express ideas with force and finesse.
