English Elocution – Inter-Class Competition for the Middle School Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity - William Wordsworth An Inter-Class Elocution Competition was organised for the Middle School, Classes 6 to 8 at St. Jude’s School over three consecutive days from the 21st to the 23rd of September. The Event was conducted Class-wise, with Class 6 presenting their poem on Monday, Class 7 on Tuesday, and Class 8 on Wednesday. The Programme provided Students with a wonderful platform to express themselves confidently, develop their oratory skills, and showcase their love for Poetry. The Students of Class 6 began the programme with great enthusiasm and confidence on Monday, the 21st of September 2026. They presented a variety of poems with impressive voice modulation, expressive delivery, and clarity. Their performances reflected careful preparation and a keen interest in literature. The Students participated enthusiastically and set an encouraging tone for the days that followed. On Tuesday, the 22nd of September 2026, Class 7 presented a captivating selection of poems in both the Group and Individual categories. In the Group category, the Students presented great poems like The Psalm of Life by Henry W. Longfellow and The Dentist and the Crocodile by Roald Dahl. The Individual Category was equally impressive, with Students presenting some poems such as Grandma Climbs the Tree and Veruca Salt. Their confident delivery, expressions, and effective voice modulation made the performances engaging and enjoyable. On Wednesday, the 23rd of September 2026, Class 8 brought the Programme to a memorable conclusion. The Group Category featured poems like The Solitary Reaper by William Wordsworth and Where the Mind is Without Fear by Rabindranath Tagore. In the Individual Category, Students showcased their talent through poems such as What Will You Do About It, Builders, and The Cold Within. Each performance demonstrated the Students’ ability to understand and convey the emotions and messages of the poems. Results of the English Elocution Competition were as follows: In the Individual Category for Class 6, the Winner was Laiba Rehmat of Class 6D. There was tie for the position of the First Runners-Up between Siddhi Gurung of Class 6 A and Arsh Satsangi, of Class 6B. In the Group Category for Class 6, Class 6D was declared the Winner, followed by Class 6A, the First Runners-Up. In the Individual Category for Class 7, the Winner was Samriddhi Sehgal of Class 7D, followed by Palakshi Singh of Class 7C, the First Runners-Up. In the Group Category for Class 7, Class 7A was declared the Winner, followed by Class 7E, the First Runners-Up. In the Individual Category for Class 8, the Winner was Aaradhya Juyal of Class 8C, followed by Gaurangi Purohit of Class 8B, the First Runners-Up. In the Group Category for Class 8, Class 8A was declared the Winner. There was tie for the position of the First Runners-Up between Classes 8 C and 8 D. The Three-day Event concluded on a high note, celebrating the Students’ confidence, creativity, expression, and literary talent. The Students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm and presented their poems with remarkable confidence. Their efforts and performances were appreciated by everyone, making the Elocution Competition a memorable and enriching experience for the entire Middle School. Poetry is indeed the real essence of life and can be aptly summed up in the words of Robert Frost: Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found its words.
